Before

Ask yourself these reasons
Why do you want to blog?
Is it to reach out to an audience?
Is it to make money?
Is it to answer a need?
What might set me apart from other
bloggers?
Or is it simply a means of wasting
time,energy and resources?
If
you have or haven't got this covered then we may proceed...
Let's
start with Lesson
No 1. Choosing a domain name
"civicissues.com, me.com, you.com..."
For many of you who don’t really
understand what a domain name is.
A domain name is simply a web
address name which you have chosen to be identified with.
For example if your name happens to
be “John Stanley”, you could buy a domain name called “johnstanley.com” from
any of the web name registrars.
Now you need to understand, who a
web registrar is – a web registrar is simply a authorized holder of almost all
imaginable combinations of letters and alphabet to form any domain name
imaginable.
A web registrar is simply
responsible for giving you the license to use a domain name.
Web registrars can sell any given
domain name at any value depending on the popularity of the word.
And that is where the word Keyword
comes from.
If you’re not familiar with the word
“Keyword” don’t be amazed – Keyword is simply a word that is popularly used by
anyone looking for that item in the search engines of web browsers. Its a focus
word.
For Example the name “Trump” could
be a keyword because people who generally search for the name are familiar with
who or what that word is associated with. Hence the value.
Keywords could be two or more words
– For instance. The Word “Donald-Trump” could be a keyword.
Popular words like these are usually
registered by users in the past and are generally sought after words on search
engines which makes them valuable the more, hence the different pricing when it
comes to buying of a domain name.
On one hand though you could form
your own keyword around you domain name and use aggressive media branding
techniques to make it generally popular. – For instance “scugger.com,
google.com”… Note that the word “Scugger” doesn’t even have any meaningful
spelling but if you could aggressively focus your brand advertising around such
a coined keyword then in the nearest future your domain word name would have a
high rise in value.
After establishing the name of your
domain, we will focus on the next subject and that is
No 2. Choosing a Blog Platform
Wordpress, blogspot...
There are different paid and free
platforms for starters, mid-level and experienced blog users.
Just google online and you’ll get a
tone of them – wordpress.org, blogspot.com, wix.com, ghostblog.com etc they are
countless.
The difference between free and paid
blogs is that on free blogs you will be definitely limited to the terms and
conditions provided by the blogs hosting service while if you’re paying for a
domain name and host, you will have all the rights, privileges and freedom to do
with your blog as you see fit.
This brings me to
No 3. Hosting
Hosting, hosting, hosting
What is hosting?
In simple terms, Hosting is the life
source of your blog. Once you buy a domain, hosting is necessary.
Hosting is simply launching your blog
on an internet server so that the whole world can see the information online.
For free blogs like hotspot.com – hosting is free and you don’t have to pay a
dime, however you must retain the domain name suffix like – “blogspot.com,
wordpress.com etc” according to the terms and conditions of the blog.
This gives both traffic to blogspot
and you.

No 4. Traffic
What is Traffic?
Sure you must have known from
experience walking or driving on a road that traffic simply means movement. And
this movement can be measured in numbers.
The Numbers indicate how many people
visit your site, the number of visitors indicate if they find your site and
it’s contents interesting, engaging and even worth reading.
If people are not satisfied with
whatever you’ve decided to bring on board to your blog, then I’m truly sorry
your blog will fail.
You need to create something of
value so that even if in the next 3 or 5 to 10 years people will still visit your
blog to get information on stuff, this is only if you plan on monetizing your
blog except maybe you just wanna blog for fun then it doesn’t apply to you.
Bring me to
No 5. Quality Content
What is Quality Content?
Quality Content are nothing more than
words, essays or a certain amount of writing that possesses value to the
reader. I cannot over-emphasize this enough. You need to write quality contents
if your main purpose is to make money from your blog.
For instance – You know how to
publish a book. And your blog’s main focus is on books.
You can create a content with the
title – “How to Publish a Book at the Press”
This kind of content is what people
generally look for online if they want to publish a book.
A good writing on – “How to Publish
a Book at the Press” will deliver such a great and quality content that even
years after you’ve written it, you’ll still find new users acquiring knowledge
from your ideas.
And that’s what people value the
most. A quality content such as this one above leads to my next sub-topic
No 6. Search Engine Optimization
(SEO)
In simple terms an SEO or a Search
Engine optimization is the use of your ability to revolve your article or
contents around certain keywords so that you can be ranked better on google’s
search engines.
Like I Illustrated with the “Book
Publishing”. If your content mainly writes with the focus word as Publishing
with its natural occurrence in many places on the article then you are
optimizing your page for that word.
SEO takes special skill and ability
to manipulate especially in your writing titles and meta tag descriptions. But
that's another topic for another day.
You just have to be good in writing
an event or an article which should contain a certain amount of not so often
repetitive words but with different ideas.
Writing a Good Quality Content
Article with a Nice Search Engine Optimization Technique cannot be complete if
you don’t have the last and most important item of all.
And that is
No 7. Your Theme or Visual
Interface/Marketing
You know human beings are very
perceptive. On a physical and subtle level, humans are more than conscious
about colour, picture and design.
How do they see your blog?
Is it well designed? What kind of
pictures do you post there? Are they quality enough?
Does it have the right colour,
spacing, font, tone?
Is it a replica of someone else’s or
is it unique?
Does it appeal to those who are not
even colour sensitive?
You need to ask yourself and others
around you? Ask your friends what they think about the tone and feel of your
blog.
Get responses because you may feel
your blog is the most amazing thing you’ve ever chosen while they may be put
off. – You never know!
All integrate your theme with
valuable Plugins,.
No 8. Plugins
What are Plugins?
Plugins are simply packaged codes
which are easy to install into your blogsite. Codes are programming languages
that allow users determine the functions and activities on that website.
For instance there’s a plugin for
music players, security passwords authentications, videos, widgets, uploaders,
downloaders, anti-malwares etc they are limitless with different uses.
Plugins can be great when you need
to integrate any kind of function with your blogsite but it can also be
devastating when they are too many or conflicting with the other same plugins
that possess similar functions. Some plugins do slow down sites so you have to
take caution when feeding em in.
No 9. Persistence/Schedule Posts
You need to be persistent and
schedule your postings according to the times that are available to you, this
gives your blog a track record and a track record is what stands your blog out
from among the crowd.
7
Don't be the type who posts 4 days
in a week and post once in the next week, it could adversely affect your
blog.
If you know you need to post once,
twice or thrice a week, stick to the plan, but remember to always keep your
blog fresh and cool especially if you need to be ranked on the higher up
ladder.
And Finally
No 10. Time
A a new blog cannot be rushed! It
cannot be swayed! It cannot be moved! Time is the happen stance of us all. Give
your new blog time, dont be obsessed with it
If you do all these things I’ve said
then I assure you this 2018 You will make Net Profit Margins beyond what you
ever thought you would.
#Cheers!
